Christmastime’s a coming! (and I have free ringtones for you.)

It’s officially December. The Christmas shopping is officially underway for most. People have houses decorated inside and out to celebrate this super fun season. It’s truly my favorite time of year. I’m very excited to start my Christmas tour this Sunday in the Indianapolis area. I’ll be on the road for about 8 days doing Christmas concerts and singing songs from my “Have A Fancy Yancy Christmas” CD. Inviting others to join in the singalong fun and be reminded of what this season is really all about.

As I was driving yesterday, seeing decorations, maneuvering through traffic, processing why this is my favorite time of year I realized how cool it is that the whole world stops what they are doing to join in the celebration of Christmas. All the hustle and bustle, all the fuss, is in honor of our King. Jesus was born to us to be the Savior of the world. We are so blessed. What a fun time this is to celebrate his birth and God’s amazing love for HIs children. The world, whether they admit it or not, is joining in the Christmas fun that all began cause Jesus was born!

Behind The Song: Be Glorified

I’ve enjoyed going on this journey with you. It’s been a joy to share about the songs on the new CD. Why I wrote them or chose to record them for “Stars, Guitars & Megaphone Dreams”. We are to the end, song twelve. (If you didn’t catch all the others look back on the previous posts of my blog and read the other stories. They are all labled “Behind The Song”. I appreciate you taking the time to read these posts and for supporting the music. Please tell all your friends about the new CD. Use twitter, facebook, send an email, buy it as a gift but please help me spread the word about this music. It’s filled with the Word of God and His Words has the power to change lives in a powerful way. I’m grateful for the opportunities given and humbled to be a messenger of this Good News!

The song “Be Glorified” is a worship song. It’s not an anthem with a big finale like chorus. It’s simple. Simple song with a simple prayer. I don’t lead worship to bring attention to myself. That would be completely hypocritical. Worship is not about the one giving it it’s about the one we’re giving the worship to. We all worship something. You don’t believe me? Yeah, how do you spend your time? What do you spend your money on? What’s most important in your life? That’s probably your item of worship. “Be Glorified” has a different battle cry. It’s that Jesus would be the one lifted high and glorified in my life and heart. Not myself, not my friends or family, not my material possessions but instead, Jesus! I hope as you sing along it will become an opportunity of worship for you too. I thought it was a great message to end the album with because Jesus is the reason we are alive. May His Kingdom and His will be done in our lives. Be glorified Jesus. That’s my desire.

Behind The Song: I Belong To Jesus

There’s a lot of insecurities that people have. One them can be the desire and need to fit in. You know the usual popularity contest that we’re all in. The song “I Belong To Jesus” came from a place of realizing “I don’t care what people may say or what I might feel. I know that I’m a child of God. He loves me, knows everything about me and He has an amazing plan for my life.” This song is about finding the completeness we need. Letting our identity be found in what God says about us instead of what others say. It all goes back to that place of trust and resting in Him.

I’m reminded of my Mom telling me that as a baby and young child when I didn’t sleep or was fussy (and sad to say was quite often) she would rock me and sing this song that’s based on scripture “They that wait upon the Lord He shall renew their strength. They will mount up with wings as eagles!” In her tired and probably delusional state of tending to a needy infant she would sing and pray that her strength would be renewed by the Lord our God who is strong. He is a present help in any kind of trouble we could ever face. Again I tell you, rest in Him. You are His. You have no reason to fear.

Behind The Song: Time To Celebrate

I’ve hosted a few dance parties in my life. It’s fun to crank up the music, hang with friends and just celebrate. The song “Time To Celebrate” is just a fun-filled song. There’s no point to it. There’s no response to an issue. There’s no scripture that it’s based on it’s just about having fun, hanging with your friends.

I wrote the song with a co-writer I’ve written with over the years. Doug McKelvey is his name and he is a lyrical genius. He’s way smarter than most of us at creative writing and use of the English language :-) The second verse holds what is proving to be the favorite line of this song. “We’ll work it like a disco robot”. What is a disco robot? I have no idea but I like the sound of it……and in the recording process the drummer, Ken Lewis, was goofing off with a vocoder (weird keyboard instrument you talk into….nothing to do with drums!) and he recorded what could be the voice of a “disco robot”. It makes me laugh every time. Check it out:

Behind The Song: Sincerely, Completely Yours

I was awakened one morning to a phone call. You know when you can tell something is wrong immediately by the tone of the voice on the other end of the call? Yeah, I knew something was up. I was told some information that would make anyone sad to hear. The fact that the sad news was about someone very close and even someone that I had looked up to and esteemed stopped me in my tracks. “Is this really true?” “How could it be?” “Why could we not see it?” Many questions ran through my mind. I spent that day and even the weeks to come in a state of shock trying to process it. I remember walking over to my piano and my heart responding immediately:

I am so tired of people giving lip-service. I’m sick of going through the motions. It’s not enough to just say and do what people expect us to say and do. Is it from our heart? Do we really mean it? The Bible says “Man looks on the outward appearance but God looks at the heart.” What does He see when He looks at your heart? What does He see when He looks at my heart?

The song “Sincerely, Completely Yours” is a prayer. It’s words are me responding to the sadness and hurt of my friend. It’s my renewed desire to let my life’s actions and words be true. I want to be wholly, one hundred percent, sold out and committed to Jesus. I’m not just saying that because it’s what I expect you to expect me to say. I’m saying it cause I mean it. I hope you’ll make it your prayer too:

“God help us to live for You everyday. Through our life, through our choices help us to make You proud. Help us to live like we are truly committed to You and furthering Your Kingdom. Help us to be sincerely , completely Yours! Amen.”

Things That Make Me Smile

So today in my usual “spend time on my iphone while I wait for a plane to take off or ride down the road or wait on table in a restaurant”…..well, you get the idea…. I came across a tweet, followed the link and grinned ear to ear. Why you ask? Cause a very kind person named Amber shared her heart, her story and what my music can be for this generation. I’m beyond honored, humbled and in awe that I get to be a vessel used to share God’s story…and to share it in a way that preteens and kids can understand is the icing on the cake.

Behind The Song: Don’t Stop

OK this song is a cover song. Originally recorded by Fleetwood Mac this is pretty much one of the classic rock staples in America that I bet you’ve heard before. A year or so ago I thought about this song and had the idea to re-record it. I thought it could be something fun to do live at family concerts. A little something for the parents! I am someone who believes strongly that God has a plan for your life. I love to ask people the question of “What do you want to do your life?” or to kids “What do you want to be when you grow up?” It’s a powerful thing for us to think about the fact that the same God who created this world created us and has an amazing plan for our life. Recording the song “Don’t Stop” was a blast. I’ve grown up hearing the song and enjoy the music of Fleetwood Mac but I really fell in love with what I believe is a powerful message “Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow!” Sure, Jesus told us to not worry about tomorrow but that’s totally different then dreaming and growing to be who God has created you to be. I decided to record the song to remind others to keep dreaming. Keep pushing and growing. Yesterday is gone. It’s in the past. Don’t become discouraged by bad situations or even people that have hurt you but instead put your trust in the one who has promised to give us more than we could ever ask or imagine! Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Behind The Song: Forever & Ever

Heaven is going to be an amazingly cool place. It blows my mind to even try to think about what will be our eternal home when we are Christ followers. I’m so excited. Seriously think about the streets of gold….it’s gonna be awesome! The song “Forever & Ever” is a song about our future in Heaven.  We need to make everyday count of our time here on earth. Jesus is coming back, soon and very soon. Are we telling others about Him? Do we live our lives like we truly believe Jesus is coming back?
